COMING SPRING 2009 -
An All New Season

 IVEM-0601 - Ken BURNS

He is a director and producer of documentary films whose name before the title guarantees that a huge audience will tune in. His style of using original prints and photographs has become commonplace among other filmmakers, and the process has even taken on his name. Among his most notable films are The Civil War, Baseball, Jazz, and The War some of the highest rated programs ever to air on PBS. Join us for our conversation with multiple Emmy Award-winning documentarian Ken Burns.

IVEM-0602 - Michael DUKAKIS
Born to Greek immigrants in Brookline, Massachusetts, he eventually became the longest serving governor in that state's history, and in 1988 he was the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. But his name and campaign will always be linked to the Republican political ad featuring furloughed rapist Willie Horton, and the image of him driving a tank two often-cited reasons for his eventual loss to George H. W. Bush. Join us for our conversation with politician and one-time Presidential hopeful Michael Dukakis.

IVEM-0603 - Dixie CARTER
She has come to symbolize the strong Southern Belle, with a will of steel and the heart of a full fledged liberal. In real life, the Southern part is true, but she has been known to refer to herself as the only Republican in show business!” She's a complete performer, but her most recognizable character will probably always be as Designing Women’s Julia Sugerbaker. From TV to film, Broadway to cabaret, she continues to make her presence known. In the 1980’ s she found her soulmate in actor Hal Holbrook, and the two have come to represent the best of Hollywood unions. Join us for our conversation with the Emmy Award-winning actress and singer Dixie Carter.

IVEM-0604 - Jerry HERMAN
He has penned the music and lyrics to some of Broadway’s biggest hits Hello Dolly, Mame and La Cage aux Folles, just to name a few-- and the hits songs from these and other works have become pop standards-- "If He Walked into My Life," “I Am What I Am,” "Before the Parade Passes By", "It Only Takes a Moment", "Open a New Window", and "Bosom Buddies". Join us for our conversation with Tony Award winning composer and lyricist Jerry Herman.

IVEM-0605 - RuPAUL
Singer, songwriter, model, actor, TV host but probably nothing describes him better then the word “Sensation.” He burst onto the scene in the 1990’s and told us all “You better work!” Dressed in High Fashion Glam, he broke down barriers for Drag performers and became a household name. With a message of “Love one another", he has recorded with music legends Martha Wash, Diana Ross and Elton John, and has even appeared in both Brady Bunch Movies! Join us for our conversation with “Supermodel of the World,” RuPaul.

IVEM-0606 - Hal HOLBROOK
His career has been populated with award-winning roles that have earned him a reputation as “an actor’s actor”. From “All the Presidents Men”, "The Firm", and "Wall Street", to his Oscar-Nominated role in “Into The Wild”, each of his performances comes across as a master class in acting. But many will always know and love him for his stage portrayal of American icon Mark Twain. Join us for our conversation with the Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Hal Holbrook.

IVEM-0607 - Tommy CHONG
In the 1970’s he and comedy partner Cheech Marin created two characters that would huff and puff their way to numerous chart-topping albums and a half-dozen hit movies. But eventually he split from Marin and the stoner image he had created for himself may have led to his real-life legal troubles But rest assured-- time in prison has not dampened his spirit. He continues to entertain his hardcore fans with his stand-up comedy, and a recurring role on the hit TV series That 70’s Show has helped him attract brand new ones as well! Join us for our conversation with comedian, activist and author Tommy Chong.

 IVEM-0608 - Lesley UGGAMS
From the TV series Beulah, to starring on the Mitch Miller show, to an attention getting role in the classic film Inherit the Wind, she has grown up before our very eyes. In the 70’s she had her own television variety show, and starred in the ground-breaking TV mini-series Roots. Always a lover of live performance, she has continued to enjoy success on the stage-- from the award winning production of On Golden Pond, to sold out concert tours, to the title role in Hello Dolly. Join us for our conversation with Tony Award winning actress and singer Leslie Uggams.

IVEM-0609 - Deepak CHOPRA
Born and educated in India, he came to the US in 1970 for his medical residency. By 1981, he had become a leader in the Transcendental Meditation Movement, which led to his understanding of the mind-body connection. In recent years his works have moved more into the realm of spirituality. While not without his critics, he continues to gain followers who look to him for answers on everything from nutrition to the afterlife. Join us for our conversation with best selling author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra.

IVEM-0610 - Jean-Yves THIBAUDET
He was playing piano by age 5, made his first public appearance at the ripe old age of 7, and by the time he turned 18 he was an award winning virtuoso. Over 30 albums later, he is still going strong-- with concerts, symphony appearances, and his work on soundtracks for such hit movies as Pride& Prejudice and Atonement.  Join us for our conversation with master pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

IVEM-0611 - Mike FARRELL
His TV acting career started with guest spots on The Monkeys and I Dream of Jeannie, but he will always be remembered as B.J. Hunnicutt on the hit series M*A*S*H. Since then, he has starred on the shows Providence, and as Milton Lang on Desperate Housewives. But his true passion lies with political activism, having spent the past forty years working tirelessly as a human rights advocate. Join us for our conversation with Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Mike Farrell.

IVEM-0612 - Bruce BERESFORD
He has directed some of the most critically acclaimed films of our time – from Tender Mercies and Crimes of the Heart to Breaker Morant and Driving Miss Daisy. He has also topped the popular box office with the 1999 thriller Double Jeopardy – but it’s his quieter, more thoughtful films that have best highlighted his storytelling talents.  In fact, his skill in directing actors has led to six Oscar-Nominated performances.  Join us for our conversation with two-time Academy Award nominee, director Bruce Beresford.

IVEM-0613 - Stacy KEACH
He has been called one of America’s greatest living actors, whose talent knows no bounds.  From the stage to film to TV, and even radio – he has succeeded in all formats and entertained us every step of the way.  Perhaps best-known for his work on TV shows like Prison Break, Titus and Mike Hammer – his body of work reaches far and wide and includes memorable performances in such films as The Long Riders, American History X, and The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean.  But his first love is the stage, where he has wowed audiences performing the works of Shakespeare, and toured the country as Richard Nixon in the tony nominated Frost/Nixon.  Join us for our conversation with Emmy-Nominated and Golden Globe-Winning actor Stacy Keach.
